Bring back push rods!
They still haz timing chainz.
(Seem to remember ignoring the rattle caused by a worn-out tensioner on a BMC B series engine, eventually the chain wore a hole through the timing cover).

Re: Motorcycling and getting a licence. Caution: 46 yr old man talking

No one over the age of 45 should attempt to pass a driving test of ANY description! Borrow the De Lorean, Mr McWelly and pop back to 1990 (when we all still knew everything). Seriously though, I've never ridden a motorbike and don't intend to try anytime soon. I have a keenly honed sense of my own m...

Re: Peugeot 508 2.2HDi GT - talk to me...

I agree the 508 especially in SW (estate) form is in my opinion one of the least hideous relatively modern cars out there. :) Trouble is the 2.2 will be Euro 5 and only comes with slushmatic transmission*. :? Worse still, they only make poverty spec and mid-range versions of the estate. :frown: Nich...

Shocking to think that VAG engine maps might be anything other than perfect.

Hi & welcome aboard. 8)

Probably easiest to swap the cd changer - not coded to the car, probably quite a few resting in scrapyards by now.
If you can't track one down let me know, I think my bro has one.

Re: Peugeot 406 2.0 HDI 90HP, cold start problem

That's a good idea.

You could well have a tiny leak at the fuel filter, (can be too small for fuel to leak out, but air still gets in).
It's also worth checking the strainer, (filter), in the fuel tank is not blocked, this can give similar problems.

Re: Another MOT shake up

I haz no 'plate' or sticker in the engine bay as 406 dpf's pre-dated any requirement to have one. I thought that came in with Euro 4 in 2005, but Uncle Google implies it was not until Euro 5 in 2008/9. Either way I don't see any MOT emission limit changes being retrospectively applied to cars built ...

Could well be the problem. Did we determine if your car has a Bosch or Siemens fuel system?

No, I don't think so. Al the auto volume does is increase the volume as you drive faster.

Re: Radio Player Problem - Peugeot 406 HDI

The beeping is because it isn't coded to the car, but the volume is probably down to whether it's got an integral amplifier or is expecting to use the external Clarion amp. Some of the later head units could be configured for either.

Hope Mrs Welly has a full and speedy recovery.
Your knee problem may be related, you've probably not been on them enough until recently.

Re: Buzzing noise

I was thinking the same thing, (recirculating flap gubbins). Another possibility you get with 110's of that age is a buzzing noise from the bulkhead area that typically lasts for maybe 15-20 seconds after stopping the engine, (I think it comes from one the vacuum solenoids that control the egr/waste...

Worthy of a KB article? (Also handy for those build code questions), if anyone has the time.

We don't seem to have 'Sticky' threads, (I will have later - the grand kids are coming round).
