Re: Wheel Bearing roulette - Volvo woes

I've had a few noisy front wheel bearings over the years, typically had to run then for ages to be sure which side it was. Never had one fail.

Re: 406 HPi

No experience with petrol engines & PP2k, but here's my 2p worth.... Inlet manif press sensor - is it giving a reading in engine ecu parameters? I've no idea what it should read, but if it's downstream of the throttle you'd expect to see a vacuum on the overun, less at idle and little or nothing wit...

Re: 2 different cars, 2 oil changes, both came up short

I sometimes wonder if you're on the level Mr Welton. Seriously though, I've done many an oil change on mine - sometimes I have about half a litre left over from 5l, sometimes it swallows the lot. Only thing that makes sense is if the quantity indicated on the container varies a bit, or something. :?

Re: Non-406 1.6 TU series engine problem

Yes, it's looking good bar a brief near-overheating glitch - guess it had some air trapped somewhere - coolant level dropped once but has stayed put since. I cleared a significant number of faults today, only one returned - solenoid for purging the fuel vent canister or some such. I may have to inve...

Re: Non-406 1.6 TU series engine problem

Some good news on the 307. :) They found a low mileage (52k) engine from a C2 for £200 delivered with pretty much all the ancillaries. My daughter's other half and his 2 brothers rocked up this morning and set about fitting it. 10 minutes ago they got it started. :D Even better, I never laid a finge...

Ouch! Not had that particular pleasure as yet, (or ticked that box as it were).
My bro reckons that there cleaning fluid you use before solvent welding pvc pipe together kills them in seconds, (mind you he's not tried it on a hooman bean, so it could sting a bit).

Canvassing opinions here, the below is exactly how my car looks in Skinflint Grey and the exact same wheels.
FTFY

Just kidding. Silver works for me, - grey would look OK-ish but only John Major would like it.

Bring back push rods!
They still haz timing chainz.
(Seem to remember ignoring the rattle caused by a worn-out tensioner on a BMC B series engine, eventually the chain wore a hole through the timing cover).

Re: Motorcycling and getting a licence. Caution: 46 yr old man talking

No one over the age of 45 should attempt to pass a driving test of ANY description! Borrow the De Lorean, Mr McWelly and pop back to 1990 (when we all still knew everything). Seriously though, I've never ridden a motorbike and don't intend to try anytime soon. I have a keenly honed sense of my own m...

Re: Peugeot 508 2.2HDi GT - talk to me...

I agree the 508 especially in SW (estate) form is in my opinion one of the least hideous relatively modern cars out there. :) Trouble is the 2.2 will be Euro 5 and only comes with slushmatic transmission*. :? Worse still, they only make poverty spec and mid-range versions of the estate. :frown: Nich...

Hi & welcome aboard. 8)

Probably easiest to swap the cd changer - not coded to the car, probably quite a few resting in scrapyards by now.
If you can't track one down let me know, I think my bro has one.

Re: Peugeot 406 2.0 HDI 90HP, cold start problem

That's a good idea.

You could well have a tiny leak at the fuel filter, (can be too small for fuel to leak out, but air still gets in).
It's also worth checking the strainer, (filter), in the fuel tank is not blocked, this can give similar problems.
