Re: 406 exec Estate gearbox

+1 the ML5C (compact)? has a slightly shorter casing, (by about 10mm).

An ML6C is the same size as the ML5T and still has reverse beside 1st

Glad you're pleased with it and good to know it's found a good home.
I shall watch your progress with interest.

Do try to keep up Welters

Re: New 'stricter' MOTs...

Not had the 'pleasure' of trying the new-style MOT, but I'm not expecting any issues when it comes around. Wouldn't worry about the glow plug issue, nearly all of them have a fault code logged for them and it'll start just fine at -15 without waiting for them to heat up anyway. My egr mod isn't so e...

Re: Dual mass flywheel

They're fitted for a reason. As rwb says to absorb the torque pulsation. It may protect the gearbox, but my understanding is that the slower the engine turns, the harder they work. The most extreme condition occurs as the engine is starting or stopping, (hence combining a DMF with stop/start 'techno...

Re: pp2000 maf sensor readings

The other thing you can observe with a failing MAF is the value reducing initially as you increase speed from idling. A healthy one has its lowest reading at idle and increases with engine speed.

If you'd like to see thick smoke look out for VAG, Mercedes and Vauxhalls of around the 2000's era.
Agreed. Plus Frods of all ages. :supafrisk:

Re: 406 niggles nearly all fixed

Egr is the usual culprit. They're gutless on transition from overrun to pulling at low revs cos the mixture of fuel and recycled exhaust won't actually burn until you get some fresh air in there.
Both my 2.2's pull from about 25 in 4th, 40 in 5th (& about 55 in 6th with this one).

That's a real eye-catching tractor unit you've got there, so much so you might not notice the odd metre of mobile home sticking out either side.

Re: Worsening driving standards

I think road safety has much to do with making your intentions clear. No hard and fast rule for roundabouts, I straight line them in the car if no ones about, if it's busy I do it proper like.

Re: air bag ECU

Could be. Those are all the detonators - use caution. :supafrisk: I would look for something common to all 4 circuits - the control unit itself, it's multipole connector and it looks like there's a bunch of connectors (one for each cct) right at the front of the console or under the radio. Bear in m...

Re: Worsening driving standards

Sometimes, but most still have some inkling that it might not be a good idea. Just back from a 9am delivery in Guildford, a truly joyous experience. The car park that is the M25 still hosts a thriving colony of Lemmings, their favourite manoeuvre being the HGV pincers where two cars over and underta...

NO need to smug Welton. Might I gently point out that metric measurements will be phased out from 11:00 29/03/2019?

Anyone failing to transition to imperial units thereafter is liable to summary removal from these shores.

I spent several hours trying to get a lawnmower to run right, only to discover the petrol can was mostly full of water cos my son left the cap off in the rain......
