Re: The wonky £1K citron Citroën

I still remember a morning commute around 2003 when I was driving a 3.0 manual Omega. A Prius tailgated me for 10 miles or so of A road, till we reached the A14, where he tried to out drag me at the end of the slip road. Unsurprisingly, it didn't work but it was neck and neck for about half a mile. ...

Re: The wonky £1K citron Citroën

I got a lift to Coventry in petrol hybrid merc C class a month or two back.
It was eerily silent, (I was convinced it was rolling cos the handbrake wasn't on at first). Amazing acceleration.
Know it's nothing like the 308, but it seemed like a game changer, (if you can afford it), to me.

Re: Tick tock...

This is only going to get worse. I seriously thought about a petrol car before I bought the Citroen in view of the growing number of UK/European cities banning diesels. Probably have to go petrol, leccy or hybrid next time. Not that I want to, but taking my miniature camper van into the ULEZ would c...

Re: The wonky £1K citron Citroën

I'm guessing it's set up to idle faster and/or respond quicker to mask how the additional load of the a/c compressor saps the engine power. Clearly somebody could program the engine and gearbox ecu's to actually work ffs 44k - Not done too badly really, your next dilemma will be what to replace it w...

...and reflecting on how nice it was like to be let out at junctions.

disable the stop-start every trip and hopefully save yourself £2k on a clutch+dmf

Re: The wonky £1K citron Citroën

You do feel the effort of constant clutch operation in stop-start traffic, same with the C5 and the 406 before it. Think I've got a bit of arthritis in my big toe, combination of that and casual shoes saw me doing most gear changes without the clutch while I was on holiday last month. My experience ...

Re: The wonky £1K citron Citroën

I lost the 'key' to the locking wheel bolts on my first 406 and drilled the heads off all 4 over a weekend. I did it with ordinary HSS drill bits but had to teach myself to sharpen them along the way. The biggest ones I used - 8, 9, 10mm IIRC needed to be sharpened about twice per bolt. Titanium coa...

Re: The wonky £1K citron Citroën

Funny. I saw a C5 like mine with a reg. plate something like "C6 AOK" this afternoon and started to wonder about this vehicle. Spooky or what?

Well done on the MOT.

Sheared wheel bolt - front or rear? How much remains? (Pic if possible).

Re: and today i have mostly been...

Already paid for & docs issued so I'd say a contract exists. I'll give 'em a bell....

All sorted. Needless to say, they would have matched any comparable quote.
I may have wasted 3p.

Re: and today i have mostly been...

Commendable husbandry sir. Suspecting my car insurance was about due for renewal, I did some digging this evening and discovered it was set to auto-renew on Wednesday with Tosco for the princely sum of £340, a significant hike since last year. Tried Direct Line, (worse), then a couple of comparison ...

Re: and today i have mostly been...

You're right, I'll get round to it at some point. Smiling quietly to myself as I appear to have got a bit of result...... Last year I had to fork out £600+ to insure the camper, plus £225 a year for monitoring the tracker. Tracker started playing up after the winter, (sometimes failing to re...

Re: and today i have mostly been...

Brilliant. I haz an Aldi drill/driver that was really handy until it lost virtually all drive to the chuck and I can't be arsed trying to take it back. After months of indecision, I impulsively bought a rubbish replacement in Asda thinking I'd then chuck t'other one out. Haven't got round to it yet ...

Re: and today i have mostly been...

Hope you're over the worst Steve. Wish I'd learned to do half the things you do when I had the chance, but being an idle sod of an apprentice meant I only really learned electrical stuff, despite British Steel spending half a year trying to teach me. Knowing everything, (like many 16/17 year-olds), ...

Re: and today i have mostly been...

Nice job on the boiler room, (puts my temporary [1993] efforts thoroughly to shame). I once 'lost' one of the cats I got landed with when my mate/landlord buggered off to college in Southampton leaving me to find homes for them. Next door neighbour discovered it about 2 weeks later in an old ...
