Re: Mondeo 2.0/2,2 tdci

They're fantastic bits of kit and been out long enough now that there's cheaper solutions to all the issues that used to worry me senseless when I owned mine. If you're worried about rust is it worth getting it undersealed and all the cavities filled? You could probably do it with Bilt Hamber produc...

Re: 406 niggles nearly all fixed

I've never been able to do 30 in 4th and 40 in 5th in any 406 diesel. In fact I find keeping the revs around 2000rpm was always best for fuel economy.

Re: Worsening driving standards

Picture the scene... 5am this morning on the M4 between Pencoed and Llantrisant, sun is out, no traffic on the motorway at all. I'm making some reasonable progress as I come over the brow of a hill to find the motorway for the mile or so ahead that I can see completely empty except for one chap in a...

This thing is flossing. Sparkplug comes out soaking.

Re: and today i have mostly been...

Two stroke advice please guys... Cheap B&Q chainsaw. Less than 5 hours on it but about 2 years old. Starts and idles fine, as soon as you touch the throttle it floods and cuts out. Doesn't matter if it's on full, half or no choke. Can't work it out for the life of me? Air filter and spark plug are f...

Re: Caliper painting

I like hammerite on calipers. Hammerite hammered gold is similar to a factory zinc passivate coating. I tend to find Hammerite sticks brilliant to a rusty caliper and bracket. Now I just brush off any dust with wire brushes, wipe the surface to be painted with an old rag and white spirits and paint....

Re: and today i have mostly been...

My Father asked me to look at his Ryobi strimmer on Wednesday as he couldn't get it to start. He bought it in 2008 and it was always reasonably straight forward to start. Prime the bulb 8 times, set the choke to full, open the throttle full and pull the cord. You'd hear a couple of fires and it woul...

Re: Warning to Photobucket Users

I closed my PB account down and I certainly would never consider using them again. They've ruined so many good blogs and guides by being so selfish. Really have shot themselves in the foot.

Re: Mondeo 2.0/2,2 tdci

I did at one time consider the Jaguar version, I liked the interior but the engines, although PSA based don't seem to be as reliable as the Peugeot ones. I have never had an injector fail on a 406 2.0. Hdi but they seem to be a common problem of the Fords, they also need programming in if one is ch...

Re: Mondeo 2.0/2,2 tdci

The MK4 Mondeo is a fantastic car. The only real common issue with the 2.0 and 2.2 which are PSA DW engines is the two pipes that go between the DPF and pressure switches split. This usually doesn't show itself until there's an issue with regenerating the DPF. The pipes can be replaced with some che...

Re: 2 different cars, 2 oil changes, both came up short

My experience with the PSA 'DV' engines is they always seem to take exavtly 4 litres to the max line.

I get the feeling a lot of manufacturers list the maximum capacity as being somewhere in the middle of min and max, maybe to stop people getting it seriously wrong?

I'd still argue that in an extra-urban scenario the petrol will not get anywhere near it's figures so the gap is much wider.

And 35k is about my current average yearly mileage.

I have the offer of a 1 owner, 16k, FMDSH, garaged poverty spec Ford KA on an 08 plate. It's completely rot free and absolutely immaculate in every way for £1000. Can even pay for it in chunks over the next year or two. I'm considering buying it, dowsing it in ACF-50 and throwing it in the back of t...

Re: Sump 'crush' washers - a lesson learned

I often heat up copper washers and let them cool before reusing them. Only if I need to however, I have a box of copper washers in the garage which always comes in handy.
