Re: Mondeo 2.0/2,2 tdci

I did at one time consider the Jaguar version, I liked the interior but the engines, although PSA based don't seem to be as reliable as the Peugeot ones. I have never had an injector fail on a 406 2.0. Hdi but they seem to be a common problem of the Fords, they also need programming in if one is ch...

Re: Mondeo 2.0/2,2 tdci

The MK4 Mondeo is a fantastic car. The only real common issue with the 2.0 and 2.2 which are PSA DW engines is the two pipes that go between the DPF and pressure switches split. This usually doesn't show itself until there's an issue with regenerating the DPF. The pipes can be replaced with some che...

Re: 2 different cars, 2 oil changes, both came up short

My experience with the PSA 'DV' engines is they always seem to take exavtly 4 litres to the max line.

I get the feeling a lot of manufacturers list the maximum capacity as being somewhere in the middle of min and max, maybe to stop people getting it seriously wrong?

I'd still argue that in an extra-urban scenario the petrol will not get anywhere near it's figures so the gap is much wider.

And 35k is about my current average yearly mileage.

How about replacing the wiring with one from a D8 without the VAN?

Re: and today i have mostly been...

I have the offer of a 1 owner, 16k, FMDSH, garaged poverty spec Ford KA on an 08 plate. It's completely rot free and absolutely immaculate in every way for £1000. Can even pay for it in chunks over the next year or two. I'm considering buying it, dowsing it in ACF-50 and throwing it in the back of t...

Re: Sump 'crush' washers - a lesson learned

I often heat up copper washers and let them cool before reusing them. Only if I need to however, I have a box of copper washers in the garage which always comes in handy.

I still don't believe for a second you would get anywhere near the figures advertised without driving like a complete tool. I'm going to try push for a Vauxhall Astra 1.4 Turbo Auto petrol in Sept as a company car. If it's approved it will be interesting to see what sort of fuel economy I get from it.

Re: Peugeot 508 2.2HDi GT - talk to me...

I also have yet to see an equivalent petrol engine yet anywhere near the fuel economy of it's diesel counterpart. I don't disagree but, Bear in mind that Diesel fuel has a higher energy density per volume than petrol. 11% according to Wikipedia. So when comparing Mpg figures knock 11% off the Diese...

Re: Peugeot 508 2.2HDi GT - talk to me...

Modern diesels aren't half as bad as people make them out to be. I know plenty of people who do nothing but short journeys, fill up with nothing but the cheapest diesel going and neglect to service the car for years on end and they haven't gone wrong. Our Duster does two 3 mile journeys most days, a...

Re: Glow plug anti-seize?

Mercedes and febi bilstein produced a ceramic grease designed for glow plugs, spark plugs and DI injectors.

It not cheap, about £20 for a small Vaseline sized pot but seems to be the stuff for the job.

What's more annoying is a friends 2009 1.8 tdci dpf equipped focus has a plate figure of 1.75
No DPF on a 1.8TDCi. They're usually quite smokey too. Is that why?

Re: Another MOT shake up

I think removing an EGR and DPF on anything Euro 5 or newer is a no-no now. That was the issue I had with my previous Focus, knowing all the issues I was having were down to the emmisions equipment and I wasn't going to be able to remove them without worrying every time the fuzz was behind me. My Fa...
