Re: 1.6HDi coming our way - Please Help!

This goes against everything I believe in but I genuinely believe the DV6 is best abused. My own personal Focus I put 60k on in 30months. It got 6k oil changes, ran on BP Ultimate on Shell V-Power, was always nursed along, spent most of it's time doing 70mph on the motorway and it ran like an absolu...

Re: 1.6HDi coming our way - Please Help!

You cannot use a pump on a DV6. I can't remember why I just remember PSA issuing a statement saying they should not be used.

Re: 1.6HDi coming our way - Please Help!

Is it really an oil change if you don't spill some though?

The duster has a 25mm hole in the metal undertray. The sump plug is mounted directly above it.

If the car is anything but dead flat the stream of oil catches the edge of the hole and fills the undertray up with oil.

Re: Car for my Daughter to learn in?

Becca had one as her 2nd car! It had HG failure about two months after purchase, then 6 months after that it started shutting off randomly, about 5 different garages along with her Father and myself never got to the bottom of it. :supafrisk:

Re: Engine oil

Also, just noticed the oil in question is an ACEA A3/B3 oil which has a limited total base number. TBN is the engine oils ability to counteract crank case acids.

Really, you need an ACEA A3/B4 oil for a 406.

Or, if looking at heavy duty diesel engine oils I'd be looking at an ACEA E6, E7, or E9.

Re: Engine oil

Synthetic oils are better in every way compared to their mineral counterparts. They last longer and can handle temperature changes better, they are thinner in extreme cold, maintain their viscosity in extreme heat and also keep the engine internals much cleaner. Semi-Synthetic oils are a complete co...

Re: A Ford Mondeo question (it's a PSA engine - it's fine!)

Talk Ford is also great. Was invaluable when I had my MK4. I'd probably have still had it up until I just started my new job if someone hadn't botched a flywheel change and render the engine scrap.

Re: A Ford Mondeo question (it's a PSA engine - it's fine!)

Get a cheap ELM327 and download ForScan. It's a Ford specific diagnostics tool and has been invaluable to me over the years. It's free to use however you have to purchase licences to use more advances features such as coding keys or injectors etc. Often Forscan will find codes standard OBD2 readers ...

Re: Just spent some money on the 406

I still reckon that late 90's/early 00's cars are the most reliable. If I had the time to work on cars I would gladly drive around in an old diesel Mondeo/406 or always fancied an E34 525TDS. The Landy has it's MOT next month and is desperate for a new A-Frame ball joint, PAS pump, injector seals, l...

Re: ~Tis the Season for misaligned Headlamps tra la la la la

Having had automatic headlights for the last 6 years I have to confess that since having my new Focus 'Style' company car I have driven off several times in the dark without switching my headlights on. :supafrisk: I've had to put some masking tape on my instrument cluster with 'lights' on it to remi...

Re: 2-EHN Cetane improver

First tank had 25ml of 2-EHN in it. Recommended dose is 1ml per litre of diesel, so under-dosed. Just put in 75ml of 2-EHN and 61.32 litres of diesel. Tank is about 66 litres. Was expecting it to be slightly down as on this tank I'd been to Bridgnorth for some tyres, done a few extra local journeys...

Re: My brush with the general public (car park ding)

Last Saturday I watched from the other end of the carpark in Costco a lovely trolley get pushed along by the wind straight into the drivers door of the Missus Duster. Two big dents in the drivers door. Lucky the scratches in the dent are minimal so I need to find a good PDR guy now to try and ...

Re: 2-EHN Cetane improver

My experience with two stroke oil is limited to my 406 1.9TD, my 406 HDi and a hand full of go's with my Mondeo and the Defender. It improves low down torque, quietens the engine down no end and helps to lubricate the fuel system. I remember reading some time ago a story about Mercedes taking a flee...

Re: 2-EHN Cetane improver

No 'hard' evidence but a gut feeling built up from experience with different fuels. The other thing worth mentioning is DPF regens. I did try to use supermarket diesel a few times in my Focus but the first thing I noticed was the regens were happening every 300-400miles as opposed to 650-700miles on...
