Re: Fuel choice for your next car?

The X-Type and MK3 Mondeos all have the ZSD/Puma Ford diesel engine. They're really a great engine, loads of torque, very smooth and very efficient but they installed an unreliable Delphi fuel system and became renown for injector failure. As far as I'm aware they were all DPF-free, certainly the Mo...

Re: 1.6HDi coming our way - Please Help!

I'll hedge my bets on a lot of this being down to a worn clutch and fly. All 3 Focuses I had ended up with 'clutch whoop' by the time they hit 60k. Well, my 14 plate one was given to me on 88k and the clutch was royally shot when I got it. My first Focus had a ridiculously easy life too, it dr...

Re: Now look who's got a Volvo...

Yeah I see what you mean, when I go to see our biggest customer (maybe 4 times a year) I park around the corner and walk  it would look like something was going wrong with our business turning up in a 14 year old Volvo (I hate this kind of judgement by the way and don't support it) but I do it...

Re: Now look who's got a Volvo...

Mine's an SE, think it stands for Suspension Expires  Sam, you said back there that your Co. gives you a car allowance but you must buy a car less than 12 months old and keep it until 5 years max? forgive me if I'm out of touch with these things but that sounds like an interference with your f...

Re: Now look who's got a Volvo...

I think that's a good choice Sam, can't believe the price, what a bargain! Does anyone else find it very difficult figuring out what the model types actually mean on moderns these days? you could easily end up with an undesirable spec if you didn't do your homework. Whatever happened to L, LX and G...

Re: Now look who's got a Volvo...

I've always liked the Volvo's, especially the older ones ( showing my age now ) and the new ones are much more suited to the average driver, rather than Antique Dealers that need a cavernous boot.... How does it 'feel' compared to the Focus? I was always disappointed by my Fathers V50 R-Design T5. ...

Now look who's got a Volvo...

https://i.imgur.com/9prxP69.jpg?1 I sat down one evening and worked out quite how much my company car was costing me. Ultimatly the company car was costing me over £6,000 a year if you included the allowance I'm missing out on. £6,040 a year to drive around in a poverty spec Focus. Now, I liked my ...

Re: 1.6HDi coming our way - Please Help!

As it's an automated manual I suspect a DMF and clutch change wouldn't be any more expensive than a manual.

I was surprised a few years ago when a colleague of mine had a new DSG clutch pack and flywheel on his Passat. £900 with genuine VW parts. Almost 'reasonable'.

Re: and today i have mostly been...

If I went and bought my very V40 brand new I would be shelling out £32,000. At 8 months old with 8k on the clock I paid £16,000.

Re: and today i have mostly been...

Thought I'd check in after not being about for 5 months. Sorry to hear about the cat Steve, I'm not a cat person but it's surprising how attached you get to them. We've had two for 5 years but unfortunately it's been becoming increasingly obvious our little guy is allergic to them. They've gone to o...

Re: Mondeo 2.0/2,2 tdci

They're fantastic bits of kit and been out long enough now that there's cheaper solutions to all the issues that used to worry me senseless when I owned mine. If you're worried about rust is it worth getting it undersealed and all the cavities filled? You could probably do it with Bilt Hamber produc...

Re: 406 niggles nearly all fixed

I've never been able to do 30 in 4th and 40 in 5th in any 406 diesel. In fact I find keeping the revs around 2000rpm was always best for fuel economy.

Re: Worsening driving standards

Picture the scene... 5am this morning on the M4 between Pencoed and Llantrisant, sun is out, no traffic on the motorway at all. I'm making some reasonable progress as I come over the brow of a hill to find the motorway for the mile or so ahead that I can see completely empty except for one chap in a...

Re: and today i have mostly been...

Two stroke advice please guys... Cheap B&Q chainsaw. Less than 5 hours on it but about 2 years old. Starts and idles fine, as soon as you touch the throttle it floods and cuts out. Doesn't matter if it's on full, half or no choke. Can't work it out for the life of me? Air filter and spark plug are f...
