Re: Peugeot 508 2.2HDi GT - talk to me...

I don't get all the hype about cam chains, there's LOADS of cases where chains stretch or the tensioning mechanism shits itself and the chain stretches or skips teeth (Nissan, PSA, BMW etc.) in my view they are not a benefit as a second hand owner but a liability unless you want to bite the bullet a...

Thanks for that, a nice little story to be fair. Something important you said was 'being careful' and that's me, even as a car driver I assume everyone else is not paying attention and I'll drive ready to react and leave lots of room.

Re: What is this dangling hose on front of my engine?

Mine used to leak from the filter housing drain off (plastic thumbwheel plug at the bottom) be careful not to murder the thing tight it might break. You can open it carefully and drain the diesel into a container then clean and check the plug's o-ring and carefully wind it back in reasonably tight b...

Re: Motorcycling and getting a licence. Caution: 46 yr old man talking

Hmmmmmm, I thought this'd stir up various reactions. I mentioned getting a bike to Mrs_Welly who said: "A f*cking MOTORBIKE NO f*cking WAY YOU IDIOT THEY'RE DEATH TRAPS" or something, I wasn't really paying attention. A 'Caterham' type thing would be fun I guess but you can't really go hooning aroun...

Motorcycling and getting a licence. Caution: 46 yr old man talking

In my youth I rode bicycles for leisure for 12 years including 3 years of BMX trials, then Cycled to/from work for 2 years so lots of varied experience albeit on push bike. Motorbikes in general were a family 'no no' since my Cousin was paralyzed in a motorbike crash at 19. All of my friends had mot...

Re: Peugeot 508 2.2HDi GT - talk to me...

I R DISAPPOINT :( Another 'modern' car being unfeasible to own because: emissions and oddly specified. Are used Dizzler values slipping now because: OMGDIESEL and what the gubbermint said? I've noticed Volvo S40 dizzlers are very cheap now, like £1,500.00 for a 2007 car. Family member just changed h...

Peugeot 508 2.2HDi GT - talk to me...

The other day I saw a 508 and thought how good it looked amongst all the usual euro-boxes out there. Naturally I went on Autotrader for a nosey. Spotted a 2012 508 2.2HDi GT with all the trimmings on the right side of £5K, but with high miles (150K). What's the deal with the newer 2.2's? are they ba...

I'd be more concerned about that diesel leak!

Re: Another MOT shake up

Just to help you, I've emailed the DVSA and the Department of Very Lost Applications with your Reg No. and VIN just to check what is required for MOT.

I also said that the standard DPF had been removed, I hope this helps.

Re: Having to slam estate tailgate

I've often found striker plates need a little adjustment as a car ages, bump damage aside they do tend to need a littke tickle to account for shrinking door rubbers and hinge wear etc. Tailgates are interesting as they can take quite a few goes to balance the thing shutting easily against it being t...

Re: Another MOT shake up

Sadly, this means I'll probably have to put the DPF filter back in (have the non-bashed out one in the garage), though I'll keep the remap  ! I will wait and see what happens before doing anything but I can always just put the filter on for the MOT and remove afterwards :supafrisk: Wonder ...

Re: Another MOT shake up

I do actually get under my cars quite regular and give things a bit of grease or a coating of Builthamber [sp?] spray coat underseal type stuff where I see fit. I even removed the Volvo's rear eggsauce hanger plates and gave them a spruce up as they were looking crusty and would cost nearly £50.00 e...

Re: Another MOT shake up

Please tell me I'm not the only one who does his own "MOT" prior to taking the car in? By this I mean making sure all bulbs are working, tyres all ok, no eggsauce leaks, handbrake ok, full screenwash etc etc. People who moan at the inconvenience and cost of their car failing on something they should...

Thanks Steve, she's had 2 x discs removed in her neck, they went in from the front so moved her voice box and 'pipes' out of the way first :o afterwards it was like she'd had a major accident. She's got a carbon fibre cage now instead of discs and a squirt of bone marrow to help fuse the vertebrae t...
