auxillary or serpentine belt tension roller bearing makes a similar noise my 406 1.8 16v sounded rough as hell on idle and low revs,changed outthe tensioner and all is quiet as can be now,good luck

Sounds like a dry joint on the PCB. XMs use to suffer from this problem and it was usually the connectors on the edge of the board, they would develop a crack around the soldered joint. hi all well the old girl passed the mot again today and only 1 advisory not bad for a 21 year old 406,now i just need to replace the power steering pump and serpentine belt tensioner! :lol:

hi all well i have drawn a blank in the search for the correct replacement either new or used seems near on impossible to buy now so if anyone has any ideas id be grateful,gone are the days you could easily fabricate such an item convaluted shape to say the least!i just hope they pass it for another...

hi all well monday the old 406 is going for the mot i have done all the bits i could see and just hope and pray she passes on the emissions :lol: she has had full service even changed out the brake fluid after fitting the new rear drums shoes and cylinders i also done away entirely with the original...

Hi Duke, Don't wish to state the obvious but have you cleaned the throttle body with a tooth brush & some carb cleaner ? well just got back from the retest,passed but despite 2 new headlamps and bulbs the headlamp leveler on the n/s doesnt work but i think its the motor bit and as they passed now i just wont use the switch i didnt even know was there until the mot tester showed me!i learned where the fog light switch ...
